Piotr Staniszewski

   A graduate of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk in the violin class and of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in the symphonic and opera conducting class. He is a prize-winner of many major violin and chamber music competitions. In 2003 he received a scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art in recognition of his achievements. To hone his skills, he has taken part in master classes taught by many great musicians, including Gabriel Chmura, Josuas Domarkas, Marina Yashvili, Viktor Pikayzen, Wolfgang Marschner, Jadwiga Kaliszewska.

   While still a student, he was a conductor of the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra and an assistant conductor, later conductor, of the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. He has performed many times with the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot as a soloist and conductor. In the 2007/2008 season he was the artistic director of the Summer Opera Stage in Sopot. As of 2010, he has been collaborating closely with the Gdańsk Chamber Opera, taking part regularly in the music festival on the Hel Peninsula. He is currently a PhD student of the instrumental faculty’s string instruments section, class of Prof. Krystyna Jurecka. Starting from the 2011/2012 season, he has been working as an assistant conductor at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw.

   He has performed in concert with the Symphony Orchestra of the Lucerne School of Music, the Cantus Domus choir in Berlin as well as many Polish symphony and chamber orchestras. He has been assistant to numerous conductors, including Krzysztof Penderecki, Modestas Pitrenas, Jan Lathan Koenig, Friedrich Heider, Patrick Fournillier, Tadeusz Strugała, Wojciech Michniewski, Janusz Przybylski, Wojciech Rajski, Kai Baumann. At the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera he was the assistant conductor for the operas Jakob Lenz, Madame Butterfly, Le nozze di Figaro, The Queen of Spades, The Nightingale, The Fall of the House of Usher. He conducted the ballet production The Biblical Parables as well as working on Mariusz Treliński’s new production of Madame Butterfly, Manon Lescaut and on The Makropulos Case and Qudsja Zaher.
