   Stage designer. A graduate of the Central School of Art and Design in London. His work can be seen in Europe and the United States. He has designed sets and lighting for productions by directors such as David and Christopher Alden, Jean-Claude Auvray, Robert Carsen, Tim Hopkins, Inga Levant, David McVicar, Stephen Medcalf, and Stein Winge. His work has also been shown on British television. He was the designer for the following productions: Strauss's Elektra (which he also directed), Gounod's Faust (Monte Carlo, Lille, Trieste), Massenet's Werther (Royal Opera House Covent Garden), for the English National Opera: Janáček’s Katya Kabanova (also Warsaw and Lisbon), Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (also Göteborg), Janáček’s Jenufa and The Makropoulos Affair (also Prague), Puccini's Tosca (also for Opera Australia), Handel's Radamisto, Weill's Love Life and Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing (Opera North in Leeds), Strauss's Elektra (Welsh National Opera), Verdi's Il Trovatore (Opera North and Dublin Grand Opera/Opera Ireland), Fibich's Šárka, Hérold's Zampa, Mascagani's Il piccolo Marat (Wexford Festival).

   He has also worked on productions of Janáček’s Jenufa (Houston Grand Opera), Berg’s Wozzeck (Dallas Opera and Lyric Opera Chicago), Janáček’s Katya Kabanova and Verdi’s Macbeth (Houston Grand Opera and Lyric Opera Chicago), Verdi’s Il Trovatore (also Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco), Britten's Billy Budd and Janáček’s The Makropoulos Affair (Lyric Opera Chicago), Strauss's Salome (Saarbrücken), Weber's Der Freischütz (Metz), Wagner's Parsifal (Graz), Handel's Tamerlano (Komische Oper, Berlin), Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Geneva, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, New Israeli Opera, Long Beach Opera), Korngold's Die tote Stadt (also Paris, Châtelet), Verdi's Attila (Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg, Liège, and Tel Aviv), Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (Mannheim), Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov (Stuttgart), Verdi's La Forza del Destino (Royal Danish Opera), Janáček's Katya Kabanova and Massenet's Werther (New Israeli Opera), Verdi's Rigoletto and Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice (English Touring Opera), Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex and Massenet's La Navarraise (Palace Opera, London), Donizetti's L’assedio di Calais (Guildhall School of Music & Drama).

   He made his debut as a director with Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Mid-Wales Opera) in 2001. This was followed by Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex (Opera North), and Elektra (Royal Opera Covent Garden, 2003 and 2008). He also directed and designed Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan (Wexford Festival 2005), Puccini’s Turandot (Reisopera, 2006), and Verdi’s Rigoletto (Opera North, 2006 and 2007).
