Daisuke Yoshimoto is one of the greatest butoh dancers, mentioned among the four dancers continuing the tradition of the founders of the butoh style - Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno. His presents his performances on many stages all over the world. Now advanced in years, master Daisuke Yoshimoto still ties his long white hair into a ponytail and dances. Every performance attracts new generations of enthusiasts of theatre and dance.

Butoh
(Jap. butō) is a modern dance from Japan. The term butoh consists of two ideograms: BU - dance and TOH - step, and means to step with the whole foot. Consequently, the performances are “walked” rather than danced, more often resembling an ancient ritual than a dance. Butoh is a dialogue with the tradition of Japanese theatre, perceived as being ossified, and a protest against Japan being flooded with Americanised mass culture.
