Renée Fleming     . Famous American soprano, one of the most celebrated opera stars of our time. She performs at the world’s greatest opera stages and concert halls, including the Royal Opera House in London, Staatsoper in Vienna, Metropolitan Opera in New York, and La Scala in Milan. Over the past few seasons, she has hosted a wide variety of television and radio broadcasts, including the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series and Live from Lincoln Center. She has taken part in numerous distinguished occasions, from the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to performances in Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games. On 18 January 2009 she performed in the televised inaugural celebration for President Barack Obama. She has performed for the United States Supreme Court, HRH The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace, and celebrated the recent 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in the Czech Republic at the invitation of Václav Havel.

A twelve-time Grammy nominated artist, Renée Fleming won the award three times, most recently for Best Classical Vocal Performance (the CD Verismo, Decca 2009). In June 2010, Decca released Dark Hope, a CD which features Fleming performing songs by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Peter Gabriel, and Arcade Fire, to name a few. Her most recent DVD is the complete Thaïs by Massenet with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra conducted by Jesús López-Cobos (Decca/2010). Earlier releases include Strauss: Four Last Songs (conducted by Christian Thieleman) and the DVD of Der Rosenkavalier with the Munich Philharmonic, also conducted by Christian Thielemann. In recent years, she has recorded everything from Strauss’s complete Daphne, through the jazz album Haunted Heart, to the movie soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

She has been featured in promotional campaigns for the Association of American Publishers and in a poster campaign for the American Library Association. She was honoured by The New York Public Library as a “Library Lion”. Her autobiographical book The Inner Voice was published in 2004, and has also been released in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Russia.

An unquestionable star, Renée Fleming has been an inspiration to many other prominent artists, such as Chuck Close and Robert Wilson, whose portraits of her were included in the Metropolitan Opera’s fund-raising auction in 2007. Two portraits of Ms. Fleming were also created by Francesco Clemente. Her concert gowns have been designed by many fashion icons: Bill Blass, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Issey Miyake, Oscar de la Renta, Angel Sanchez, and Vivienne Westwood. In 2008, she launched La Voce by Renée Fleming, a fragrance designed for her. She has also inspired the “Renée Fleming Iris”. Master Chef Daniel Boulud, who runs restaurants in New York and London, created the dessert “La Diva Renée” in her honour.
