The 7th Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition is an opportunity on the one hand to seek out the greatest Polish and foreign vocal talents in a contest, and on the other – to promote the work of Moniuszko and other Polish composers among the vocal youth of the world. It is the ambition of Maria Fołtyn, the competition’s founder and artistic director, to make sure that Stanisław Moniuszko, so thoroughly immersed in Polishness, composer of national operas and Home Songbooks, becomes a true citizen of the world through this event. Starting from the composer of Halka, we then come upon Paderewski and Penderecki, Szymanowski, Lutosławski, Bacewicz, and many other Polish contemporary composers. The competition boasts a list of outstanding prize-winners who today are the pride of not just Polish but also international opera houses, to mention Aleksandra Kurzak, Marcin Bronikowski, or Rafał Siwek.
