Many leading ballet companies have performed at the Teatr Wielki in the past. They include the New York City Ballet, Royal Ballet, Rambert Ballet, Ballet of the Twentieth Century, Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre Ballet, Het Nationale Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Hamburg Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Bavarian Ballet, Australian Ballet, Teatro alla Scala Ballet, right up to small contemporary dance groups and dance theatres. We have decided to make these visits a cyclic event by organizing annual Days of Dance at the Teatr Wielki. These will always be held before the official opening of the season at the Polish National Opera, and will be hosted by the Polish National Ballet under Krzysztof Pastor's management.

In bahok Akram Khan, the world-famous British choreographer of Bangladeshi origin interested in merging different and diverse traditions and cultures, explores issues of identity and the home of modern man. His five-member company comprises a Korean, an Indian, a South African, a Slovak and a Spanish dancer. They form a group which creates a mixture of cultures, traditions, and dance on stage. Combining the dynamics of contemporary China and its folklore with elements of Kathak and influences of Western contemporary and classical dance, they search for a universal, original language of communication. The music for the performance was written by Nitin Sawhney.
The premiere of BAHOK took place in Beijing on 25 January 2008. The show has been successfully shown in many countries, including Britain, Syria, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, France, Abu Dhabi, Croatia, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Mexico.
Akram Khan, born in 1974, was 30 when he became an associated artist of Sadler's Wells Theatre and was awarded an MBE for his services to the UK dance community. This year ITI-UNESCO invited him to write and present the International Dance Day message to the world.
