American soprano, a soloist of the Metropolitan Opera, where she debuted in 1981. She has sung parts that include Nightingale in L'Enfant et les sortilèges by Ravel, Fiakermilli in Arabella and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss, Blonde in The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart, Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann by Offenbach, Gilda in Rigoletto by Verdi, and the title role in The Nightingale by Stravinsky. She appears on all of the world's leading opera stages and at American theatres, including Los Angeles, Memphis, Michigan, Central City, Honolulu as well as Opera South, the opera houses of Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, Munich, Barcelona, Montpellier, Nice, Monte Carlo, and Amsterdam. Her long association with the Los Angeles Opera included performances in The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni and The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart, Xerxes by Handel, Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi (with Placido Domingo), and Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss.
Her repertoire encompasses a great many important works, from the Baroque to the 20th century. She is a successful performer of lieder and soprano parts in oratorios and symphonies by composers such as Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, Wolfgang A. Mozart and Joseph Haydn, but also Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz and Witold Lutosławski. A participant in major music recording projects, she has recorded numerous recitals and complete operas. She has worked with the greatest conducting personalities of our time: Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, André Previn, James Levine, Charles Dutoit, Lorin Maazel, and Mstislav Rostropovich. She often gives concerts in Poland, where she has worked with conductors such as Jan Krenz, Kazimierz Kord, Antoni Wit, Wojciech Michniewski, and Marek Janowski. At present she combines stage appearances with teaching work at Nyack College and The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, New York.
