Izabella Kłosińska


Izabella Kłosińska    Outstanding Polish soprano. She studied at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw, from which she graduated with honours and received the Kazimierz Czekotowski Prize. While a third-year student, she debuted at the Teatr Wielki and then joined this theatre permanently upon graduation. Her artistic achievements include over 40 leading roles in operas and an extensive oratorio and cantata repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. The parts she has sung at the Polish National Opera include the title role in Madame Butterfly, Mimi in La Bohème and Liu in Turandot by Puccini, Roxana in King Roger by Szymanowski, Violetta in La Traviata, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Leonora in La Forza del Destino, Elisabeth in Don Carlo, Maria in Simon Boccanegra and Elvira in Ernani by Verdi, Marguerite in Faust by Gounod, Micaela in Carmen by Bizet, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss, Maria in Mazeppa by Tchaikovsky, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Elvira in Don Giovanni and the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, Xenia in Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky, Eve in Paradise Lost by Penderecki, Freia in Das Rheingold by Wagner.

   In 2005 she appeared in Sao Paolo, Italy, to perform in Puccini's Triptych. In 2008 she performed in Caracas, Venezuela, and at the opera house in Skopje, Macedonia, and in 2009 she appeared in Munster, Germany. She is famous for her interpretation of soprano parts in the oratorios of Górecki, Kilar, and Penderecki. She has given guest performances in Amsterdam, Hanover, Dortmund, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, Zurich, Bern, London, Glasgow, the Vatican, Tallinn, Seoul and Degau (South Korea), Caracas (Venezuela), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Detroit (Michigan Opera Theater), Buffalo, New York (United States), and Osaka (Japan). She is associated with many Polish and European festivals. Her output includes numerous CDs as well as radio and television recordings. In 1999 she received the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art for achievements in vocal music, and in 2000 - the Andrzej Hiolski Award for the best opera role in the 1999/2000 season. She is also a recipient of the Gloria Artis Medal for service to culture. At present she is also a teacher at the University of Music in Warsaw.
